Surgical Simulation Community of Practice (CoP)

Welcome to our latest Simulation Community of Practice. This group is for all health professionals and educators working in the surgical area to look at ways we can directly improve patient care and healthcare systems, through diagnosing safety and performance issues and delivering simulation-based interventions in the perioperative healthcare setting.

This starts with how we educate our future and current clinicians and extends through to those working at the heart of healthcare delivery.

The SSCoP is open to:

  • All professions
  • All levels of training
  • All areas of surgical practice
  • All levels of experience
  • All locations in Victoria and beyond

In a recent simulation scoping study performed by VMIA all ten surgical simulation services from public health services commented on the need for communication and collaboration across Victoria. It was highlighted that there was a need for a Community of Practice to enhance information sharing and foster partnerships.
“In-situ simulation training in theatre is well received as it’s in the real clinical environment. It would be great to have a specialist group visit rural areas to train staff for infrequent medical emergency cases.”
