Join us on 10 August 2021 for this free webinar, chaired by Tess Vawser and Tom Hallahan, where we will hear various stories from simulation experts.
Jenni is Head of Simulation at the Royal Children’s Hospital, and specialises in Inter-Professional Simulation-Based Education. She and the RCH Simulation Team focus on building capacity for Simulation–Based Education across the campus in order to improve patient safety and clinical outcomes through team-training, development and facilitation of simulation-based education programs focusing on the deteriorating patient and communication within teams and with families and patients.
Jenni has trained in General Paediatrics, Neonatology, and Paediatric Intensive Care across Australia, Canada and England. She has worked for over 30 years in Paediatrics and Neonatology and currently works clinically with the Paediatric with the Paediatric, Infant, and Perinatal Emergency Retrieval (PIPER) Service at the Royal Children’s Hospital, Victoria, Australia.
Ram is a dual-trained (UK & Australia) Academic General Paediatric Surgeon working at Monash Children’s Hospital. He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Paediatrics at Monash University and coordinates paediatric simulation-based educational activities at MCH in his role as the Director of Surgical Simulation and Co-Chair of MCH Simulation Service.
He has been a pioneer in both minimally invasive surgery in children and surgical simulation for many years having designed the first validated paediatric surgical bench trainer model in 2002 at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London. He has an educational and clinical research background with 87 peer-reviewed publications including RCTs, 73 international conference presentations, 2 textbooks published by Wiley-Blackwell and 8 book chapters.
He is also passionate about educational reform in Low- and Middle-Income countries having been the Monash Children’s Hospital International country lead for Myanmar, successful conducting a simulation-based medical education programme for the last 5 years with his local in-country colleagues. This work also has led to temporary advisor to the World Health Organisation, the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He is currently coordinating a remote training programme for paediatrics in Papa New Guinea in collaboration with the WHO.

Samantha Dix is the Director of Simulation and a senior lecturer at Monash University, Nursing & Midwifery (MNM).
Samantha has a keen interest in using evidence to improve simulation learning experiences and has a focus on using simulation to bridge the learning gap for health professions students that improves the provision of high-quality care for patients.
For the last 14 months, Samantha and a team of 18 nurse educators have travelled the state of Victoria assisting aged care staff to understand how to effectively use PPE to prevent the transmission of COVID-19. The Monash PPE Project is an education program that integrates the practical application of PPE during a face to face session with a purpose-designed Virtual Reality simulation used for ongoing competency-based development.
